In this video you’ll learn:
10 Must Have Sewing Tools
The sewing machine is one of the main tools you’ll use when sewing clothes, but there’s actually a few other things you’ll need before you can start any sewing project.
Inside this printable PDF you’ll learn:
Pick the Perfect Fabric
One of the tools we talked about in the last step was fabric and I know this can be an overwhelming topic.
That’s why in this video I’m going to explain:
In this video I talked all about fabric, but that obvious next question is which thread should you buy to go with your fabric?
What Type of Thread?
For most projects you can use All Purpose Thread.
This is 100% polyester thread and it works great with all the fabrics I suggested in the video and is my go to thread for 95% of all my sewing projects.
What Color Thread?
The easiest way to pick your thread color is to hold your fabric up to the wall of threads and see which one looks the closest.
If you can’t find an exact match, go for one shade DARKER.
The human eye is drawn to lighter colors more easily, so if you pick a lighter color you’ll notice the thread. With a slightly darker thread, the stitches will blend more easily into the fabric.
What if My Fabric Has Lots of Colors?
This is a design decision so you get to pick what you like the best!
But if you’d like some rules:

This option is totally free but does take longer
This can take a lot of time but if you don’t learn how to thread your machine you’ll never be able to sew anything 🙁
Make sure you watch the entire video from beginning to end and that you understand every step before starting.
You don’t want to start a project only to get stuck or lost in the middle and then give up!
If you do get stuck, you can always ask for help inside my FB group or any of the other amazing groups out there.
But be warned, you’re going to have to try and explain what you’re doing and what went wrong using words and photo, which can be really difficult depending on the problem.

If you go with this option you will:
This class takes about 6-8 hours total so in just a week or two you could be rocking a brand new DIY skirt AND feel confident using your sewing machine!
Lots of tutorials out there show you how to thread one specific machine but I find this approach tends to leave people feeling really confused when something goes wrong.
Instead, I’ll show you what every piece of your sewing machine is for so you can naturally and intuitively understand how to thread your own machine on your own. And you’ll know what to look for when things go wrong!
An elastic waist skirt can seem really crafty if it’s not done correctly but I’ll show you how to make a super cute and fashionable skirt like the ones shown below!
I want to make SURE you create a skirt you LOVE so I’m also including weekly Q+A sessions to help you in case you get stuck.
Here are just a few examples of the skirts my students have made inside this class!
